Fox ESS Commissioning Guide

New to the Fox ESS setup process? This quick guide walks you through commissioning a Fox ESS system using the FoxCloud 2.0 app — from first-time setup, creating the plant, configuring Wi-Fi, and finishing with all required installer settings. Follow each step in order and use the final checklist to make sure everything is properly commissioned.

Step 1: Download the FoxCloud 2.0 App

Scan the QR code provided with the unit to download FoxCloud 2.0, then install the app.

Once installed, the FoxCloud2.0 icon will appear on your home screen.

Step 2: Initial App Configuration (First Download Only)

  • Tap “Getting Started” and select North America.

  1. Create an account - installer/distributor account.

  2. Connect to your network and make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is turned on.

     

    Step 3: Open WLAN Configuration

    Tap the “…” at the top-right, then select WLAN Configuration.

    You can also manually enter the Smart WILAN SN code.

    Step 4: Create the Plant

    Sign in to your account and tap Create a Plant.

    Scan the QR code on the Smart WILAN or manually enter the SN, then complete the plant information.


    Step 5: Check System Performance

    Go to the Plant dashboard to confirm the system is online and reporting.


    Step 6: Complete the Commissioning Checklist 

    Use this combined checklist to ensure all hardware, wiring, and software settings are correct

    Complete

    Battery is wired to inverter (confirm polarity correct)  
    Grid/Backup Output is wired correctly (L1/L2 lines line up throughout the system)  
    RSD Jumper is present or E-Stop is wired  
    CT Sensors are wired and facing the correct direction (arrow points towards the grid)  
    Hub communication cable is wired correctly and has continuity  
    Battery communication cable is wired to inverter Bat Comm Port (perform a pull test on the connector, the water right fitting sometimes pushes on the connector release tab)  
    Resistors are present (confirm they are installed in the correct ports)  
    Battery plug/Base is installed on the bottom battery  
    Wi-Fi Dongle is installed (red light is on and green light is flashing)  

     

    App & System Settings

    Item 1: Set the time zone
    Done from the Plant dashboard.

    Item 2: Configure the Energy Management Mode
    Choose the appropriate mode (Self-Use / Backup / Peak Shaving).

    Item 3: Enable Zero Backfeed (if required)
    Done from the Device dashboard.

     

    Item 4: Set the Charge-by-Grid Value
    Set allowable charge limits and time-of-use charging rules.

     

    Item 5: Enable battery heater
    Done from the Device dashboard.

     

    Step 7: Share the Plant 

    Once the plant has been created, make sure the customer’s system is shared with the installer — including us.

    1. Go to the Plant dashboard
    2. Tap the “…” (three dots) in the top-right corner
    3. Select Associated Installer
    4. Enter SolarPowerStore as the installer account
