Keeping your Moose Battery firmware up to date ensures the best performance and compatibility with your system. Follow this step-by-step guide carefully to complete the update successfully.
Important Disclaimer Before You Begin:

Email us at hello@solarpowerstore.ca to receive all the necessary firmware files for this update.

You will need a compatible RS232 to USB cable to connect the battery to your computer.

This process requires a Windows computer only — Mac is not supported.

Turn off all antivirus software, including Windows Defender, before starting. Failure to do so may cause the update to fail.
What You’ll Need:

A Windows computer

A RS232 to USB cable
-
Firmware files (request via email)

The following software (we’ll explain how to install below):

CH341SER.EXE (Serial Driver)
-
Maple Leaf BMS Tools
-
Step 1: Install the Serial Driver (CH341SER)

Locate the CH341SER.EXE file (included in the firmware package we send you).

Double-click the file to start the installation.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
-
Restart your computer once the installation is complete.
Step 2: Open Maple Leaf BMS Tools
-
Locate and open the Maple Leaf BMS Tools application.
-
It may take a few seconds to load — please be patient.
Step 3: Connect and Configure

Plug your Moose Battery into the computer using the RS232 to USB cable.

Check which COM port your cable is using:
-
Open the Start Menu, type Device Manager, and open it.

Expand the section labeled “Ports (COM & LPT)”.
-
Look for “USB-SERIAL CH340” or something similar — the COM number (e.g., COM3, COM4) will be shown next to it.

In the Maple Leaf BMS Tools window:

Set Baud Rate to
9600 -
Set Serial Port to match the COM port you found (e.g., COM3)

Click on "Open Port" to establish the connection.
Step 4: Unlock Software Settings

Go to the "Software Settings" tab.

Type the password:
123456 -
The background will turn red to confirm the correct password was entered.
Step 5: Perform the Firmware Update

Click on the "BMS Update" tab.

Set:

Pack Addr to
00 -
Serial Port to
COM1

Click “Select File” and choose the latest firmware file (provided by us).
-
Click “Update” to begin the firmware update process.
Do not unplug the battery or close the software until the update is complete.
Troubleshooting

If the BMS Tool does not detect your battery, let us know. Some cables from the manufacturer use a different pinout, and we may need to send you a compatible one.

Make sure antivirus or security software is fully disabled during the update process.
