Connecting your Sol-Ark inverter with Pytes batteries?
Setting up closed-loop communication between your Sol-Ark inverter and Pytes E-Box or V5 batteries helps your system work more efficiently and safely. This guide walks you through the steps for a smooth and reliable setup.
Step 1: Connect the Batteries Together
Start by linking your Pytes batteries using the supplied RJ45 communication cable.
-
Connect Link Port 1 on the first battery to Link Port 0 on the next battery.
-
Continue this pattern if you’re using more than two batteries.
-
The first battery in the chain (connected to Link Port 0) becomes the master (host) battery.
-
You can connect up to 16 batteries total—1 master and 15 slave batteries.
Note: Check your Pytes battery manual for detailed connection diagrams.
Step 2: Set the DIP Switch
On the master battery, set the DIP switch according to the manufacturer’s configuration for Sol-Ark communication.
This tells the battery it's the master and enables communication with the inverter.
Step 3: Connect the Communication Cable
Next, link your Pytes battery system to the Sol-Ark inverter.
-
Plug one end of the communication cable into the “CAN” port on the master battery.
-
Plug the other end into the “Battery CAN Bus” port on your Sol-Ark inverter.
-
(This may also be labelled “CAN” if you're using an indoor-only inverter.)
-
Tip: Ensure both ends of the cable are secure—loose connections can prevent communication.
Step 4: Configure the Inverter Settings
Set the communication and battery values on the Sol-Ark inverter for closed-loop operation.
Battery Settings (Batt Setup tab):
-
Batt Capacity: 100Ah * number of batteries
-
Max A Charge/Discharge:
-
Sol-Ark 8K/12K: Max 185A
-
Sol-Ark 15K: Max 275A
-
Use the lower of the inverter’s max amps or 50A × number of batteries
-
Example: If you have 3 batteries on a Sol-Ark 12K, use 150A (50 × 3)
-
-
-
Use Batt% Charged: Enabled
-
BMS Lithium Batt: Set to 00
-
Activate Battery: Turned on
Note: Once BMS Lithium Batt is enabled, some values will auto-adjust and become uneditable—this is normal and means the BMS is now in control.
Step 5: Set Charging Parameters
On the Charge tab in the Batt Setup section:
-
Start%: 15%
-
A (Amps): Same value used for Max A Charge above
-
Float Voltage: 55.6V
-
Absorption Voltage: 56V
-
Equalization Voltage: 56V
Step 6: Set Discharging Parameters
On the Discharge tab in Batt Setup:
-
Shutdown: 10%
-
Low Battery Warning: 20%
-
Set the battery parameters
Batt Capacity: 100Ah per unit
Max A Charge/Discharge: 185A is the max amps that Sol-Ark 8K/12K mode supports
and the corresponding number is 275A for 15K mode. Fill in the max amps or (50A*unit
numbers) which is lower. (For example, there are three Pytes E-BOX batteries and
one 12K Sol-Ark inverter in a system. The max amps of 12K is 185A and three
batteries can support 150A(50*3). So the number should fill in is 150A.)
Select “Use Batt% Charged”.
Enable “BMS Lithium Batt” and set its value to “00”.
Turn on “Activate Battery”.
Note that enabling BMS Lithium Batt 00 will adjust some values and make other values unadjustable (like the temperature coefficient above). Just ignore those values -
the BMS is in control.
